In 1498 the "leadership" of Asolo was given to Caterina Cornaro, Queen of Cyprus,. Thus the town now became the cntre of a royal court, a very small court, but one renownes for its refinement and for the quality of the artists who visited there: Bembo, who wrote Asolani ancd during the 19th century, the English Romantic poet Robert Browning who was living in asolo when he wrote Asolando.

BASSANO DEL GRAPPA, the industrious
Land of commerce and meeting point of trade routes, Bassano has proved to be fertile ground for weaves, goldsmiths, patters and carpenters.
Industrious wealthy districts, thousand year old communities linked to illustrious names: Jacopo da Ponte, the Remondini firm, the spirit of Nardini.
The characteristic Bridge of the Alpine, Jacopo da Ponte and the fine ceramics production are the symbols that attribute international notoriety to the city. The bridge is the symbol of Bassano, and it was designe by Andrea Palladio in 1571. Look north from the bridge, at the magnificient panorama of the prealps. At the foot of the hill below the Castle lies the ancient Borgo di Morgnan. On the left, is an elegant 17th century building, Villa Priuli. The area near the bridge is full of fascinating little shops and famous Grapperia Nardini.
Bassano del Grappa is an old town; it straddles the River Brenta at the foot of the mountains, near the entrance to the valley that separetes Monte Grappa and the Altopiano di Asiago.
The Bridge, work of Andrea Palladio, the Castle of the Ezzelini, the Civic Museum and numerous palaces frescoes are some of the important things that you can visit in the historical center.
The medieval testimonies inside stir with the venetian architecture of the three town-walls building, that they mark the city development of the romanic city of origins.
Bassano has a long cultural and srtistic history. The old town centre, with its fine Piazzas, churches, towers and monuments, grew up around the medieval nucleus of Colle Santa Maria: the Castle and ancient Parish Church. pieve di Santa maria wich is the Duomo (main church) of the town and still houses a precious 18th century Daci organ and fine baroque altars.
The painted town. Many artists were already active in Bassano in the late 14th and early 15th centuries. In the mid 15th century repeated wallpaper style decorations were in vogue. During the 1500s the flourishing Schools or Studios of local artist did much to encourage the trend for decorations. The most famous local artist of the time were the Nasocchi ancd the Da Ponte families.

The Giorgione's city conserve, between them medieval walls, all the prestige an artistic city.
The Shovel of Giorgione, inside of the Dome and the Marta-Pellizzari house are in the heart of the city, together to the 700's Academic Theatre.
There's a beautisull public square, and the Castle with its walls, constructed by Trevigiani in XII century in order to defend theriborders.
CAstelfranco, the town, got its name form its castello "Franco" whose originale inhabitants were exempt from tax.
By the early 1300s the first houses (Bastia Vecchia) has already built to the east of the fortifications.

CITADELLA, the traditional
From above, the walks seem to be a necklace that gently encircles the town.
Hisotry flows here, in the gentle sing-song accents of the dialect of the locals, who are still so closely bound to the glorious rural traditions of the Veneto that they recollect past in folkloric events.
Imposing walls encircles the city; The walls are caracterized by 32 towers.
The origin of the city laughed to 1220 when the government of Padova constructed this town-walls in order to protect its territory.
The town was fortified in 1220, as a part of a military project by Padoca, wich want to create a defensive outpost to guard against the incursions of the neighbouring Lords and, especially, against attacks from the nord by Treviso.
The town walls of Cittadella are one of the best preserved esemples of medieval military defensive architecture in europe. Acces to the town that lies inside the walls is given by four fortified gates eith stone bridges, corrisponding to the four cardinal points. Porta Treviso to the east, Porta Padova to the south, Porta Vicenza to the west, Porta Bassano to the north.
There is a path that goes right around the outside of the walls: an excellens palce for a stroll.
Inside the wall the are many historical treasures:to the north, the Castle of Porta Bassano, protected by a small moat, next to the CAsa del Capitano della Guarnigione (garrisan Commander's house); to the south stands the Castle of porta Padova, with the tower of Malta, cited also in the Divine Commedia, to the east the small Tower of Porta TReviso with its frescoed arch and, to the west Tower of Porta Vicenza.
